In 2015, IMAR started its first project in the Middle East, the personalisation of the imposing metal façade of the Faculty of Sciences at Sabah Al Salem University in Kuwait. Close to 20,000 m2 of 3 mm stainless steel panels was manufactured and installed. The pieces were highly complex from a technical point of view, as there is no repeating pattern and each tray is unique. NBBJ Architects designed a fantastic puzzle offering a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Arab latticework.

Three years of intense work and technical development have allowed us to successfully complete our largest project to date and opened the doors of this demanding market with such iconic works as The Frame Dubai, Motor Town Kuwait, Riyadh Metro and Jazeera Airport .

A unique design

For the design, our technical department generated a pattern that evokes Arabic motifs through perforations in different diameters combined with ‘blind’ spaces. This is a bespoke version of our IMAR IMAGING solution applied to a micro-perforated surface that provides transparency from the interior and opacity from the exterior.

The project of the Faculty of Science at Sabah Al Salem University consists of two separate buildings, one for women and one for men, each with a basement, ground floor plus five additional floors. Both are divided by zones and connected to each other by shared circulation spaces.
